Vanguard Class Battleship Summary
This is a 3D printed sculpt of the Vanguard Class battleship by EBard Models.
The HMS Vanguard was the last battleship produced by the Royal Navy. She was bigger and faster than any previous Royal Navy battleship, incorporating war time experience into her design. Unfortunately she entered service in 1946 after WW2 ended.
She was designed in 1939 to counter the latest German and Japanese battleships already under construction. Due to numerous redesigns and stoppages, actual construction progress was slow. At one point in 1942 there was debate whether she should be converted to an aircraft carrier. Meanwhile the German and Japanese counteparts were already in service.
While the Vanguard was certainly the pinnacle of British battleship design, she had older 15" guns, whereas the USN standardized on 16" guns and the Yamato class had 18" guns. It remains a theoretical discussion on how she would have held up in combat against her intended rivals from Germany and Japan - the Bismark and Yamato - given she had no war time experience.
