Suffren Heavy Cruiser Summary

The Suffren was the lead ship of the Suffren class of heavy cruisers of the French Navy. She was commissioned into service in 1930. The design of the Suffren class was derived from the preceding Duquesne class, with more armor in exchange for less speed. 

Prior to the French surrender in WW2, Suffren operated in the Mediterranian against the Italians. She was stationed in Alexandria, Egypt, along with other French warships at the time of surrender. These ships surrendered peacefully in contrast to French ships based in Algeria. The ship was disarmed and interned by the British and was rearmed in 1943 to join the Allies. 

The Suffren was the only ship of her class to survive the war.
