RAF Spitfire Summary

The Supermarine Spitfire was the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war and was the most produced British aircraft. The wing design helped give the Spitfire a higher top speed than contemporary fighters of the day. The Spitfire had a lower attrition rate and a higher victory-to-loss ratio than the Hurricane, so during the Battle of Britain, Spitfires were generally tasked with engaging enemy fighter aircraft. 

The Spitfire was continually upgraded throughout the war and remained competitive with newer fighter designs. This is truly remarkable considering the Spitfire design was ancient by late war standards, having been introduced in 1938.

The Seafire was a carrier-based adaptation that served in the Fleet Air Arm from 1942 through to the mid-1950s.

Choose between early war camouflage and insignia (brown base) or late war camouflage (grey base) and insignia. Wing & fuselage invasion stripes are optional.

In our games, we differentiate between land-based Spitfires and naval Seafires. Only the naval version can operate on carriers. The naval versions take 1 more turn to produce (to account for specialized training) but otherwise retains all the cost and combat values of the land-based equivalent. We designate the early war (brown) version as land-based Spitfires and late war (grey) version as naval Seafires.
