RAF Halifax Summary
The Handley Page Halifax heavy bomber entered service November 1940 and quickly became a major component of Bomber Command. The Halifax performed its role well however Avro Lancaster was more favored because the Lancaster could carry larger single bombs and therefore perform missions the Halifax could not. None the less, production of the Halifax continued until April 1945, with 6178 built. Of these1,833 aircraft were lost (30%) during their service with Bomber Command.
