The Unryu fleet carrier was the lead ship of her planned 16 member class. This class was based on a modified Hiryu design for quicker construction rather than the more sophisticated Taiho and Shokaku designs. The Unryu laid down in 1942 and launched just 2 years later. However, due to fuel and aircrew shortages she was forced to remain in limited use. She was ordered to transfer aircraft and supplies to the Philippines in December 1944 just prior to the invasion of Luzon and was sunk en route by a US submarine.
Only 3 ships in her class were completed - Unryū, Amagi, and Katsuragi.
Add the Unryu to your carrier lineup to provide a more realistic diversity of Japanese fleet carriers. Choose between a wooden flight deck decal or late war camouflaged flight deck pattern and hull camouflage.
The Unryu comes with a unique, historically accurate flight deck decal and two strong neodymium rare earth magnets to hold two aircraft.
