IJA A6M Zeke Summary
The Mitsubishi A6M was code named "Zeke" but better known informally as the famous Japanese "Zero".
The Zero was a formidable dogfighter when introduced and early war successes achieved a 12-1 kill ratio. Unfortunately the Zero was not upgraded as the war progressed and new US fighters and new engagement tactics soon neutralized its advantages over US aircraft. Later in the war the Zero was clearly outclassed but remained in service due to the delayed introduction of newer aircraft models.
The Army version of the Zero comes in two colors - light grey underside/dark green top surfaces (authentic Tamiya IJA Dark Green paint is used).
In our games, we differentiate between land-based Zekes and naval Zekes. Only the naval version can operate on carriers. The naval versions take 1 more turn to produce (to account for specialized training) but otherwise retains all the cost and combat values of the land-based equivalent. We designate the dark green colored as land-based Zekes and white version as naval Zekes.
Pieces are not magnetized.
