County Class Heavy Cruiser Summary
This is a 3D printed game piece from EBard Models. The County class was the first post-war cruisers constructed for the Royal Navy and were designed within the limits of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. These ships were limited to 10,000 tons and 8-inch calibre main guns, and referred to as "treaty cruisers". The term "heavy cruiser" was not defined until the London Naval Treaty of 1930.
The County class had 3 sub classes - Kent, London and Norfolk - and all had a distinctive three-funnel layout. These are considered "A" ships, while the follow-on York class of heavy cruisers are considered "B" ships due to their smaller displacement of 8,250 tons.
The cost of each "A" ship in 1929 was estimated to be £2,180,000, and the cost of each "B" ship was estimated to be £1,800,000.
